One month ago I was flipping out about gaining weight. A ton of weight on my petite frame is about 5 pounds. In the past, when I got desperate, I would skip past counting calories and go low carb. When I'm counting calories the weight loss is annoying because I get tired of tracking and being glued to weighing and measuring everything. With Paleo you eat what you want, when you want.

I was getting annoyed at the scale to the point it was consuming me. That is when I knew it was time for me to change. So, I put the scale away and looked up the Paleo diet.

The Paleo diet is also known at the Cave Man diet. You will be getting rid of the processed garbage in your life. You eat like a caveman would. You can have fruits, nuts, veggies, meats, fish, and certain fats.

I think it only took a day or two for me to get use to this new diet. It was not hard, like going low carb. I quickly found replacements for my junk food.  I love chocolate and pasta. I replaced my love for pasta with kale chips. They are simple and easy to make. Here is a link to kale smoothies and chips. As far as the chocolate, you are allowed to have 70% or higher organic chocolate, but don't go crazy with it. My new chocolate love has been Almond Dream ice cream. It is made of almonds and heavenly.

In one month, I have lost 3 pounds. I allow a cheat day on Friday. So, if I was eating 100% Paleo 7 days a week I probably would have dropped 5 pounds. I have about a pound and a half to go to my happy weight. I read on a Paleo website that your weight will naturally fall to were it should be. We will see where I land. I'm not buying new clothes.

Most of us are not born with beautiful eyelashes. Of course, my daughter Faith was one of the lucky ones. Check out her set of beautiful, long, dark eyelashes. For the rest of us we get extensions, layer pounds of mascara, and even add feather like substances.

I had extensions applied back in February for my Cancun trip, so I wouldn't have to worry about going in and out of the pool and looking like a raccoon. They were great for my trip.  What they fail to tell you is, when that extension falls out so does your eyelash. So after all is said and done, you end up with even shorter eyelashes.

One of my neighbors has the longest eyelashes that I've even seen. She told me about a product that she uses. So, I decided to give it a try.
It is called Physicians Formula Lash Boosting Eyeliner. It comes in brown and black. I bought a two pack on Amazon. I have been using the same liner for the last six months. You apply it to your top eyelashes just like you would eyeliner. It goes on smooth and it's a nice color.

A few months later I noticed a dramatic difference in my eyelashes. They were long and full.

What can I make with it? Lots of yummy goodness that your whole family will love. The above pictures are from when I made a smoothie. I used ice, water, Kale, banana, and blueberries. It was so good that even my 10 year old daughter drank one. I could do without it being green though. 

Information about the Jungle Jubilee and Tomorrow’s Child

Tomorrow’s Child is excited to present the 1st Annual Jungle Jubilee on Sunday, August 11 at the Detroit Zoo. We invite you to join us for a family fun day for all to enjoy. In addition to everything the zoo has to provide, we will have various children activities, light refreshments, and our long standing traditional walk featuring a kid friendly scavenger hunt incorporated into the Jungle Jubilee!

Tomorrow’s Child originally began as a grassroots effort by families coming together with one unfortunate common interest, the death of an infant. Almost 20 years later, Tomorrow’s Child continues to provide services and programs throughout the state to save babies lives and support families who have experienced a pregnancy loss or infant death. Through community partnerships and personal outreach, Tomorrow’s Child touches the life of every newborn in Michigan. We engage families, health professionals and caregivers to keep babies healthy and safe. We also provide grief support to anyone affected by a miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death.

Despite aggressive efforts to reduce the infant mortality rate in Michigan, last year over 800 babies did not survive to their first birthday and 500 were stillborn. This translates to more than four deaths every day this year in Michigan.  While Michigan is one of the most progressive, industrialized states in the union, our infant mortality rate ranks among the worst in the nation.

Your participation in this event will allow Tomorrow’s Child to continue to advance its efforts in outreach. Last year alone, we distributed over 240,000 safe sleep materials and provided grief support for 400 families.

1.  Babies will NOT choke when sleeping on their backs.

Everyone knows someone in need.  So, I took the backpack to church with me. A lady that volunteers at the church told me that her neighbor lost his job and they were really struggling. His daughter happened to be a little girl, which was perfect with it being a Hannah Montana drawstring back pack.

After six consecutive sold out shows at Ford Field since 2006, Eric Church, Eli Young Band and Kacey Musgraves will join Chesney for his seventh summer stop in Detroit.
